Michelle's First Year Photo Book

I've been working on this photo book for quite some time, adding new photos almost every month and finally I placed an order for 3 copies today, for me, my mom, and my parents-in-law. I wanted to make this photo book so that we can always remember the time when Michelle was a baby. If you are a close friend of mine, you know that my memory is not very good.. hehe.. I rely a lot on tools such as calendars, notes, blog, etc to jot down things that I want to remember and revisit in the future.

I hope Michelle will appreciate this photo book when she grows up. I hope that by looking at the photos in the book, she'll always remember that we will always love her.

Anyway, here's a preview of the photo book...

Eagerly waiting for that orange package now....

Jakarta Trip 4 - 12 December 2010

We went back to Jakarta in early Dec to attend my cousin's wedding... again, still lazy to blog - so many pictures will tell what happened there :)

Trip to KL & Port Dickson

Not much story to tell... a picture tells a thousand words.. so an album probably has much more than that :)

Trip to the zoo

Ever since my ex boss told me that his daughter drew a KFC chicken thigh when her teacher asked her to draw a chicken, I told myself that I would not let that happen to my child, so my hubby and I had wanted to bring Michelle to the zoo for quite some time now. On Saturday, we woke up quite early (for our standard) and realized that there might actually be enough time to go to the zoo. Well, we made it there around 3PM and zoo closes at 6PM so 3 hours should be enough.

It was drizzly and the rain was just stopping so a lot of the animals were still hiding when we reached there. But we managed to see some of them like giraffe (I think giraffe is one of the most unique animals), zebra (not unique because you can see them everywhere in Singapore crossing area), hippo, rhinoceros (my hubby thought I was making up the "ceros" part), monkeys and similar kinds, penguins, horse, dogs, lions, tigers, etc.

To be frank, I don't really enjoy going there. It was hot, humid, and SMELLY! But I think Michelle was quite fascinated by the other zoo-goers, not the zoo inhabitants though. I think for some of the animals, she doesn't even realize that they are animals, maybe to her they are like.. hmm... something else? :D

We should probably bring her back to the zoo again when.... her teacher ask her to draw some animals?

Growing Pains

I never thought that the process of growing teeth is so hard for babies. Of course I've heard about some babies getting fever when they are teething but I never think much of it, and I never expect it to happen to Michelle because these kind of things usually only happen to other people haha :D

But recently, Michelle has some sort of runny nose, coughing, and a little bit of fever (like 37+ degree), and I thought she caught flu or something so we brought her to a family clinic near our house because the usual doctor closed already. The doctor there told us that this is actually because she's teething. When baby is teething, it actually stimulates the production of saliva and sometimes it can go back to baby's throat and irritate them, hence the coughing. It's so hard to see her suffer like this, she can't even sleep comfortably now!

Sometimes she sleeps soundly but next moment she's coughing so hard! I had to quickly sit her up and pat her back because I'm worried that if I leave her in a lying down position, she might choke on her saliva. I don't know if that's possible but it seems so whenever she's coughing...

I hope all her teeth will come out soon so that she can outgrows this process quickly!

Anyway, here's a photo of her getting her first-haircut-at-baby-salon. She got her haircut at home twice before by my mom (both time when I wasn't around!) so this time round I made sure that I watched the whole process. It wasn't really a great one because she was not familiar with the auntie and so she kept on screaming. We went home with the back of her hair so straight it looked so weird! At the end, we went to buy hair scissors and I fixed a little bit of the hair (still look weird though..)

And some more photos below of her when she came to my office for "Bring your kids to work day". She was quite shy at first but felt at home soon afterwards, roaming around the office and even playing with my colleagues and their stuff. She even helped me to pick up calls :D

During that day, they had a few events for kids like face painting, quiz, tote coloring competition, but the one that I found the most amazing is the balloon twisting auntie. She made so many things using balloons, such as princess/ballerina (looks the same to me), octopus, crocodile, bazooka, sword, rings, bouquet of flowers! That's the princess on the floor. :p

Shopping for clothes online

I ordered 6 items from a website a week ago and I thought I ordered a lot of "good" stuff but last night the orders arrived and most of the items look different than the photos on the website. The colors are not as bright and the materials are quite lousy! Maybe I should never buy clothes online anymore!! :(

I think last time when I ordered some maternity clothes online, the same thing also happened... but I totally forgot about that until now!

PS: Not telling what the website is since they are so lousy!

Michelle's Bambino Photobook is here!

My cousin helped to bring over Michelle's photo album *last month, ahem..* and it's so pretty and professionally done!!

It come with a sturdy album box and the frame is quite thick!

The bear picture is actually the CD of all the photos, I haven't checked them out until now... :p

And check out the works of the album... zoom zoom...

My friend gave me bonus an 8R size framed photo too.

Overall, I think it was money well spent :)

Baby Swimming Time

We brought Michelle to try swimming with a neck ring at Plaza Singapura. Actually we (or I) wanted to bring her there long time ago but since we always go out at night, the place is always close by the time we get there. So today we were *slightly* earlier and reached there about 8PM.

The whole thing cost $30 excluding swimming diaper that cost $1.50 per piece. So we changed her into that swimming diaper thinge and then the person helped her to warm-up *HAHAHA*

First try, she used the neck ring and she could actually reach the bottom of the pool so she was standing instead of floating around / swimming in the pool so the lady suggested to change to a different type of float that comes with a seat, which makes her legs unable to touch the bottom of the pool. I thought that would be more fun for her, but actually it scared her! Since her legs couldn't touch the bottom, they were just curled stiffly and she was screaming her lungs out! I think people who were watching from outside the glass could hear her as well.

So I told the lady that I don't want her to continue already then she went on to say that in the morning there was also a baby who kept on crying but his mom let him continue. Then after 5 minutes, the baby seemed to enjoy it. But I just couldn't let her scream for 5 minutes! Crazy or what?!

Perhaps next time we'll try real swimming in real swimming pool so that we can go in to the pool together with her. Maybe that way, she won't be so terrified :)

So neck ring OUT!

PS: Because she was screaming so badly, I didn't even have a chance to take a single photo! And they gave us discount, so we only need to pay $17.

Rachel's Wedding 18 Sept 2010

We just attended my dear friends Rachel & J-Sen's wedding recently. The wedding was at Noble House at Esplanade Mall and the deco was really different from your usual wedding-at-hotel-or-restaurant setup. It was really intimate and cosy and the ambience was really good. The food was the best though, everything from the starter till the dish before desert was top notch. I didn't really like the desert though, they were serving glutinous rice ball but it was already cold and harden in the inside, but everything else were great! There were abalone and lobsters! :D

The part that I like the most is the part where they thanked their parents for bringing them up. I think that part was so touching :D

They also took polaroid photos to give to us on the spot.. below are mine :)

And I can't wait for her little one to come out! :)

Thing I Would Like To Do Before I'm 30

Here's the list not in order of priority:
  • Go to Korea.. hehe as always..
  • Go to a concert (by a real singer, like Jay Zhou), SingFest or circus such as Cirque de Soleil is not counted! I can't believe in my 29 years of existence, I haven't been to any concert before!
  • Build up the courage to have a 2nd baby so that I can have another one AFTER Michelle is 2 years old.. just saying... no promise... sounds hard.. maybe I should rethink this..
  • Go back to "wedding weight" - how come this goal seems to contradict with the previous goal?
  • Get baptized... or work hard towards it!
  • Get promoted... I wonder if my boss is reading my blog or not..
  • Learn a new language - not French, too hard! Any idea? Maybe I should learn Malay :D

How come the list become so long? I think I shall stop for now.

Me Time

Recent thoughts have been amplified by recent conversation (via blog comments) by Siyong about "me time" after baby. I always thought that my me time is in the bathroom, the daily half an hour I get in the morning while preparing to go to work because that's like truly the only luxurious half an hour that I can get without any interruption from other people. The next half an hour putting on make-up is not considered as me time as I often have to put make-up and watch Michelle at the same time, that's why she's into make-up at 10 months old! They say babies copy the adults a lot.

While it's true that the baby won't be able to stay up as late as adults, like for example Michelle sleeps on average about 9 or 10 PM, but is the time after that really my personal time? I do have husbands to accompany and talk to, perhaps that's husband time? And there are also friends to go out with. And also since my mom is here helping to take care of Michelle, and she doesn't have much friends in Singapore, I understand that she'll feel bored just staying at home so I need to bring her out too.

I wonder if I will ever have me time, maybe in a few years time? Like probably when she's teenager and doesn't want to hang out with me anymore :D

Upper Peirce Reservoir

We wanted to go to the zoo on Sunday but as usual we are always late. We only reach the zoo at about 4 and it closes at 6 or 6.30PM so we decided to go there another day. So we went to Upper Peirce Reservoir instead. It's kinda hard to imagine that somewhere within this city, there's a huge green area and the scenery is so beautiful! There were some monkeys on the road leading to the reservoir... and they like to jump on the cars!

Some photos from that outing can be found in picasa web album here..

Cousin's Trip to Singapore 7 - 15 Sept 2010

My cousin came to Singapore for Hari Raya holiday and we also went to Malaysia (KL, Genting and Malacca) during their short one week stint here. It was a whole week full of shopping!!

Some of the photos mostly from Malaysia trip..

At Hotel Picolo's lobby, waiting for check-in after super long drive from Singapore..

Michelle & James sitting together at hotel lobby..

At Genting.. I think it was quite near the Mid Autumn festival as well, that's why there were lots of lanterns everywhere!

Michelle's 2nd time on a merry-go-round in Genting :)

Michelle & I in a mini indoor ferris wheel :)

This thing that we are in (below) actually floats around almost the whole shopping center. I wanted to ride the one that looks like a ship but got the one that looks like a whale instead!

Mini Viking ship... not scary :(

Can you see where my sis & I are?

Making foot wax statue(?) for Michelle.. The result is pretty good, but I haven't taken any photo of it.. lazy!

Indonesian vainpots shopping in KL.. :D

Malaysia is pretty awesome for shopping. We discovered that Shu Uemura is a lot cheaper there compared to SG and my sis and I even got VIP memberships there because we shopped too much! We must visit M'sia more often in the future! We bought so much stuff, but luckily everything still can fit into the car :D

Anyway, back to Singapore... we had dinner with my sis' in-laws family as well at Jumbo Seafood Restaurant at Clarke Quay. Time for group photo...

My cousin, husband, and son at Universal studio Singapore.. looks like one of those celeb family snapped by paparazzi huh?

My sister and I.. we are waiting for this thing behind us to be fixed!

No money to pay for entrance.. must work first...

Hehehe.. I managed to make it a long blog post without having to type much because there are so many photos! :D

Last Exam!!

I took my last exam (at least for this year) last Wednesday and now I don't have to take exams anymore!! Phew!! I think studying for exam wasn't that hard when I was a student. I could easily stay up til 3-4 AM just with the help from a cup of coffee mixed with a lot of Milo powder. But nowadays, I can't hardly go over 1AM. Either I'll be too sleepy or get distracted by Michelle or distracted by Facebook.

Anyway, I think I scored fairly well for all the 4 exams that I had to take. And the good thing is I don't have to think about them for at least another year!

In case you are interested in taking the same exams, check out this link.

Michelle's First Photo Book

I got a free photobook voucher from Shutterfly and I've been meaning to make one for Michelle's photo. I didn't have much time to put the book up since I have been postponing it till the last minute (the voucher deadline is Sept 1) so I used Michelle's unedited Bambino studio photo instead. I wanted to use her normal photos and write down some milestones and stories, but I guess I'll just do it when she's one year old next time.

Here's the link to the photobook and I can't wait for it to appear in my (physical) mailbox!

Michelle Pulls up to stand & jump

Michelle could pull up to stand since she was about 7 months old, and after that she's hardly ever sitting down. It's now hard to change her diaper because she keeps on rolling over and then crawling away!

Maternity Photoshoot

I didn't post the photos earlier because I don't like the result. I look fat! Well, I was pregnant but I still didn't like the way I look when I was pregnant... but anyway, here are some of the photos taken in November when I was 8 months pregnant.

How to deal with picky eater?

I thought things will get simpler when Michelle starts eating solid food. I thought that I could just bring the bowl with grinder set and feed her anywhere and anything, like perhaps she can eat the same food as us but I just need to grind it first. But most of the food outside has salt or even MSG added into it! So it's really better to either prepare the food at home or bring a ready-made baby food.

There were a few days recently that we needed to go out really early so there's no time to prepare her meals, so we thought we can try Heinz ready-made baby food that comes in jars. We picked a few flavors that we think she will like, but she hates all of them. She made faces and even puked! I tried a few of them and well, some of them really taste weird, but even those nicer ones like vanilla custard.... oh, well....

But next month my cousin is coming and we are thinking of going to Malaysia, how can I bring my whole kitchen?! At least I need to bring my Phillips steam & blend machine if we are going to prepare food for her over there and that is already quite huge!

I wonder how other mothers do this.... my mom said they probably don't bring such young babies on holidays, but I'm sure some of them do!

Anyway, we bought a few more ready made baby food and some of the powder kind where you just need to add hot water, and hopefully she'll respond well to some of these! *cross fingers*

Sentosa Trip 14 August 2010

Michelle had runny nose almost the whole time she was in Indonesia. The doctor there told us that she might be allergic to dust and if she keeps on having this type of runny nose, she might develop asthma. Yikes! I know how hard it is to have an asthma because I witness first hand how hard it was for my sister when she got asthma attack last time when we were young. She couldn't sleep at night and she would sit up on her bed hugging her pillow.. quite poor thing...

My mom told me that sea breeze is good for people with asthma, so we thought that we should bring Michelle to Sentosa (instead of going to the mall, for once). Sentosa is just getting prettier every day. I don't know why but I just like that place hahaha maybe you think I'm so touristy :D

Here are some photos from our trip to Sentosa..

USA Trip July 2010

Our team finally met up as a global team and I finally got to see everyone face-to-face. Well, not everyone because some of them couldn't come but I met most of my teammates during the offsite.

I shall not talk to much about work and bore everyone, so here are some photos from when I was in SF and some from Disneyland. My camera died on my first day in Disneyland so there wasn't much picture. And I was too busy playing on the 2nd day so there wasn't much pictures either :p

This is at a pier opposite the SF office

Beach party at Google HQ

Huge sand sculpture

At Disneyland

Met up with Mindy too, Connor is so big now and baby Chloe is so adorable!

The other reasons why there isn't so many photos is because I was too busy shopping and it was kinda hard to take photos when my hands are full with the shopping bags! The baby stuff over there is really wayyyy cheaper than the ones in Singapore so it's really worth to buy more stuff from there and just keeping it until Michelle is big enough to wear them.

Oh well, where will next year offsite be? :D

Jakarta Trip July/August 2010

I had to go on business trip for about 2 weeks in July so my mom took the chance to go home to Jakarta to visit my siblings as well. Since my husband cannot take leave for the whole duration that my mom will be in Jakarta, Michelle went to stay there for a month with her. So I was there to send them to Jakarta and helped to settle them down over there for a few days before flying back to Singapore to fly to San Francisco the next day.

It was the hardest thing ever to leave her there, especially since she was crying so hard and so uncontrollably. She's normally not a fussy baby and she doesn't cry much so I was really upset to see her crying like that. I think my eyes were all red and teary when I was at the immigration.

After my business trip (will blog about that in another post), I flew to Jakarta again and she was so much bigger already! I can see the change in her face too. Her first tooth was showing a little bit too! She actually looked taller but much skinnier, maybe because she's not used to the water and air there, she wasn't feeling that well the whole month when she was there. I had to bring her to our family doctor a total of 3 times for flu and diarrhea! It was quite sad to see her sick like that, but seems like her spirit was not so affected. She liked playing with my siblings. Maybe she thought they are same age/generation as her :D

My husband joined us after a few days and we managed to explore some places like Tangkuban Perahu in Bandung and some new shopping centers.

Some photos from the Indo trip...

Michelle & I at Bogor

Mom & Michelle at Bandar Djakarta

At Grand Indonesia

We also managed to bring Michelle to take a studio photo at Bambino Photostudio. I got the unedited soft copies with me and the magazine style ones, but I'm still waiting for the edited individual photos now! So excited about it! My friend or cousin will bring the album and CDs for me in September... can't wait!!

My hubby also bought me a new gadget... a new Nintendo DS Lite!! I think he kind of regretted it now because I've been ignoring him and playing my game whenever I have free time :D
